Good Friday -Stations Of The Cross (Maria Desolata) 4.15 pm
April 18th at 4.15 pm
Join us a for a Stations of the Cross (Maria Desolata) service.
“Maria Desolata” translates to “Mary in Sorrow” and refers to the Stations of the Cross being walked in reverse order, mirroring Mary’s journey back to her home after Jesus’s death.
The service includes prayers, reflections, and sacred art and invites participants to contemplate Jesus’ death and Mary’s suffering.
The Stations of the Cross have formed part of Christian devotion for many centuries because it offers a poignant way of following in the steps of Jesus on the way to the Cross.
It originated when early Christians visited Jerusalem and wanted to follow literally in the footsteps of Jesus, tracing the path from Pilate’s house to Calvary. They would pause for prayer and devotion at various points. Eventually, those pilgrims brought the practice back to their home countries and ever since then Christians of differing traditions have used this form of devotion.
Join us for this devotional commemoration service as we walk through the Stations of the Cross in reverse order and contemplate what it means for us, our faith and relationship with Jesus.
Afterwards refreshments will be served including Hot Cross Buns.
