On 14th September The Church Of The Holy Sepulchre will hold a special Feast Of The Holy Cross day at 4pm. This will be followed by a celebratory pasta dinner.

Holy Cross Day, celebrated on the 14th of September, holds a significant place in the liturgical calendar of many Christian traditions. But what exactly does this day commemorate, and why is it so important?

The Day celebrates three significant events.

One: The finding of the True Cross by St. Helena, in the early 4th century

Two: The dedication of  the Church Of The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. This church, believed to be built on the site of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial, was consecrated in the year 335 AD.

Three: The restoration of the True Cross to Jerusalem in 629 AD.

It only seems right, as a church built to honour the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, to celebrate this day. I guess you could celebrate like one celebrates a birthday, so that is what we will do. After the service we will have a celebratory pasta supper.

All are welcome.
