Making space for God this Summer

Making space for God this summer

As the school year ends, the inbox quietens (just a little), and our routine changes it is a great time to reevaluate.

Summer is a natural invitation to slow down and rethink even if only for a few moments.

Whether you’re heading off on holiday, juggling childcare, or staying put with windows flung open and a fan whirring in the background, this season offers a chance to pause.

For many of us, life moves quickly. We rush from one thing to the next, reacting more than reflecting. But what if we used the summer, not just as a break from things, but as a break towards something deeper?

What if we let this season become a kind of spiritual exhale?

You don’t need a retreat or a reading plan to reconnect with God. You just need a moment of quiet attention. A walk where you leave your phone behind. A cup of tea on the back step with no agenda. A prayer scribbled in the notes app.

Summer, in its unhurried rhythm, reminds us that relationships with others, with ourselves,  and with God grow best not in busyness but in being.

It’s in the slower days, when we stop doing the ‘usual’ that we often sense God more clearly. Not because He wasn’t there before, but because we’ve finally slowed down enough to notice.

So, what would it look like to make space for God this summer?

It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It might be as simple as:

  • Setting aside ten minutes to sit quietly and breathe.

  • Keeping a journal where you jot down prayers, questions, or moments of gratitude.

  • Choosing one psalm or Bible story to live with over a few weeks.

So take the invitation. However the weeks unfold, may you find space to pause, reflect, and draw near. And may you be surprised by how close God really is and the work he is going in your life.
